Last semester my New Testament professor challenged our class to do a project centered around “coming unto the Savior.” We were told we could do it in any form (dance, art, a paper), so ofc I chose art. I wanted to share this experience along with my testimony today. The symbolism of it all is the red marking on her face, is in reference to the red marks that Samoan women wear to emphasize their smiles in dance. Red is also a symbol of sin in the scriptures. Taking these two symbols in made me think of how “Adam fell that men might be and men are that they might have joy.” We have to know misery to truly understand and know what Joy is. In my life I have made mistakes but when I come unto Christ and knowing how far I’ve come only emphasizes my joy(or smile).
The other symbolism is the pose in which I painted Christ and I in. I was trying to reference Hā, in Māori culture. It means the breadth of life. When two people share it, one shares their life with the other and vice versa. When I allow Christ to share his life and light we me, his Hā, I am changed. I hope everyone of you have a Blessed Sabbath and that we all allow Christ’s light into our lives. 🙏🏽
In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
